Description West Virginia SEARCH provides opportunities for health care professions students and residents to participate in multidisciplinary health care teams serving in underserved communities.

A component part of this statewide program awards stipends to medical, dental and other health professions trainees who demonstrate strong potential for future practice in rural, underserved areas of West Virginia.

Amount Student stipends are $75 for each day of the SEARCH experience in an underserved community, for a minimum of 20 working days and a maximum of 100 working days per stipend year. Resident stipends are $100 a day for clinical and/or Project participation. SEARCH stipends are taxable.
Geographic Coverage West Virginia
Eligibility Students/Residents must be enrolled in one of the following programs: medicine, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, nurse-midwifery, clinical nurse specialist, dentistry, dental hygiene, clinical nurse psychiatry, graduate clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or graduate clinical psychology and have completed a minimum of one year (medical and dental students two years) of their professional education. Medical applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing primary care in family or general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, or pediatrics. Students/Residents must agree to participate in a rural rotation in a Federally Designated Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
