HWIC’s State Health Workforce Information Guides

Have you ever wondered what’s happening in your state in relation to the health workforce? Check out the Health Workforce Information Center’s state guides! HWIC’s staff comb state organizations’ websites, correspond with workforce experts, and watch for website updates to identify the latest health workforce reports and data for each state.

What can I find on the state information guides?

Each guide starts with an introduction that highlights frequently requested information, key organizations and data sources.
In addition, the table of contents for each state leads you to:

  • Resources, such as:
    • Key resources highlighting substantive or recent research
    • Directories of organizations like nursing programs approved by the state licensure board
    • Documents which provide data on the state’s health workforce, highlight health workforce programs, or surveyed health professionals in the state
  • Organizations supporting the state’s health workforce
  • Funding including loan repayment programs, grants, and more
  • Events taking place in that state
  • Relevant news

How often is the information updated?

New resources and information are added on a continual basis. In addition, we perform a comprehensive review of each guide annually to identify organization changes, update key resources, and ensure the most relevant resources are listed, in addition to daily checks for new resources. As part of the review process, we also contact state workforce experts. We are always looking for more reviewers, so please contact us if you are interested in contributing to your state’s guide.

How can I suggest resources for my state’s page?

Has your state developed a new health workforce center or lost funding for a current workforce program? Please let us know! HWIC is a great dissemination resource for letting others know about the work your state is doing. We also appreciate suggestions for how we can make the state pages more helpful for you.
